Antelope Audio Edge Solo Review

Not all of us can afford to have a line of top-notch microphones at our disposal. This is where a company like Antelope comes in to save the day. As a music gear company, they have been focused on music technology and innovation since their inception. With the recent expansion of the Edge series, they have hit a gold mine in terms of modeling technology. Today we’re going to be getting you familiar with one of their entry-level modeling microphones, the Antelope Audio Edge Solo.

The Review

Even at a relatively low price compared to many condenser microphones on the market, the Antelope Audio Edge Solo sounds like a top-notch microphone. It utilizes Antelope’s modeling technology that gives you the ability to emulate some of the world’s top microphones. Accurate? Uncanny is more like it!

One of my favorite microphones to model is the Berlin 67. It has the delicate sound that the 67 is known for and picks up the smallest nuances in the voice, perfect for those softer performances. When it comes to low-priced microphones, that is not a quality that you get often. Of course, it doesn’t sound exactly like a U 67, though it gets wildly close considering the fact that it is made with completely different components.

The Vienna 12 model is excellent too. It is made to model the famous AKG C12, which gives you a small bump in the higher frequencies and a bit less detail in the low, especially compared to the U67. It creates a sweet, modern sound that is perfect for today’s pop recordings.

The Edge Solo comes complete with a high-quality shock mount, a pop filter, a long XLR, and a hard carrying case. It’s lightweight, perfect for the singer on the go.

Should I Buy It?

Beyond the modeling technology, the Edge Solo is an excellent microphone on its own. At under a thousand bucks, you’d be hard-pressed to find a condenser microphone quite like this one. I would highly recommend it for a producer or engineer who is just starting out and wants to explore different sounds!
